“Disconnect from technology and reconnect with each other” –Rosemary Wilson.

To explain what I mean, I’ll use a personal example This past Thanksgiving break I went on a Royal Caribbean Cruise. At the time I thought not having Wifi was going to be a nightmare… yet in reality it was the quite opposite.

My parents booked a three day vacation, what does this have to do with anything you might ask? It has to do with the fact that I was really bummed out that I couldn’t use my phone. To be quite honest I was displacing myself for the unacceptable. Meaning I was keeping to myself rather saying in my head “Hey go be social make some new friends”. Sadly, that was my flawed mindset for the first day on the ship. Until I left my phone in my room and started wandering around.

While looking from a far distance I saw lights and heard music, so me being me went to go check out what was going on! What I found was the Teens Club, and not even 20 minutes in I made a group of friends. Thinking to myself I was like “See what not having a phone all the time, checking what’s going can do?”

After we started walking around having a really funny, yet chill conversations about life, as well as school. After that we went dancing at a Spanish dancing club called “Boleros” which was really fun. Since I didn’t know how to dance to Spanish music, besides hitting that one two step, one of the friends I made taught me. Yet I didn’t dance the moves she taught me correctly for the first 5 minutes I picked it quickly surprisingly. Ha ha, I knew that my Cuban/Nicarguan blood would help me out dancing for my first time actually learning.

Before we left we all got each other’s social media and were having crazy yet great conversations and plan to meet up soon!

Moral of the story is: if I had Internet and was checking my phone 24/7, like most teens, I wouldn’t have had those great nights on the Royal Caribbean.
