It’s the week before winter break, and students are gearing up for the holidays. Santas, elves, and reindeer were roaming the halls of Coral Reef, showing off their spirit. Mrs. Santalo, the student activities director, sent out an email to students announcing the themes for each day to students.

MONDAY – DECEMBER 18 TACKY SWEATER DAY

TUESDAY – DECEMBER 19 FLANNEL DAY

WEDNESDAY – DECEMBER 20 HOLIDAY MOVIE CHARACTER DAY

THURSDAY – DECEMBER 21 HOLIDAY HAT, SCARF AND SOCKS

FRIDAY – DECEMBER 22 WINTER WHITE DAY

The turnout? Amazing.  Everybody suited up with Christmas cheer to celebrate the end of the year, as well as a break from instruction. One thing is for sure, the week before a long winter break always seems like the longest.

Legal alumni Alyssa Martinez agrees, “By Wednesday, my brain hits the off button. I can’t wait until Christmas.”

It’s a phenomenon that affects all students when they know a break is coming up: their morale drops. Teachers notice the lack of motivation to do assignments and tests. Thus, many teachers attempt to make the workload much easier on students. It’s an endless cycle of unproductivity and impatient waiting for Friday.
